I don’t think Nate is wincing because of the crushing weight of the books he is carrying, he’s wincing because he’s HELPING Mrs. Godfrey. Oh, how he hates her!

But Nate is SHELVING his poor attitude. And like SpigotMan said, if he wins the bet, the 10 dollars from Gina will be sweet, but he will win something more – stronger, braver, more confident and self-respect.

Nate’s pride is taking a beating. But Mrs. Godfrey…. is smiling? In Nate’s company? I’ve never seen that.

And if you think about it…. Gina’s pride is taking a beating, too. And it’s all just because Nate is winning.

One more day to go, and it’s gonna KILL me to wait until Monday to find out what happens.

I wonder….

…Nate will win, then Gina will say “One more week, Nate – double or nothing?”.

What the heck kind of teacher uses students to carry books to their cars!?

Shouldn’t the week be over now? After all, the only days in a week that Nate could get a detention are Monday through Friday when school is in session and it’s Saturday already.

btw, all you who’ve commented & compared this to Charlie Brown & Lucy’s football ruse: I think I remember something about an “invisible” Charlie Brown kicking the ball, but I don’t know. But on p.566 of David Michaelis’ SCHULZ AND PEANUTS where Schulz is dictating his now-famous “Dear Friends” message to (2nd wife) Jeannie, he’s recorded as having thought: “You know, that poor kid,he never even got to kick the football. What a dirty trick-he never had a chance to kick the football.”

I don’t know if anyone saw this or cared about it, but Jimmy Newtron had an issue with a girl a lot like Gina and Nate. Towards the end of their “lives” (of adolesence), they kissed and were very loving toward each other. Perhaps that is what will cook up between Nate and Gina?

Mrs. Godfrey is the only potential teacher to give Nate a detention.
