Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for November 21, 2014
Transcript:
Nate: Ms. Clarke, "Bippity Bunny and the Big Bully" might be a kiddie book, but it's a GREAT STORY! Nate: It's got a beginning, a middle, and an end, a protagonist, conflict and resolution! All the stuff YOU told us adds up to a good story! Nate: Plus, when you gave us the assignment, you didn't say we COULDN'T choose a kiddie book, now DID you? Nate: So. Read it and weep. Ms. Clarke: I'm pretty sure I will.

Well… depends. As a matter of fact, it is quite possible to write excellent book report about kiddie book. You could compare it with other books, describe its educational value, analyze used vocabulary and grammar and how it is suitable for 1-st graders. Problem is, it is not a thing Nate would do.

Judging from what Nate says in panel 2, he’s written a good report. I agree with prasrinivara.

Ms. Clarke should take this as a ‘win’. Nate learned everything she wanted him to learn. Apparently he knows all the elements of literature. Would it have been nice if he had read ‘War and Peace"? Sure. But was that the point of her assignment? Looks like she’s a pretty durn good teacher.
