Once Upon a December - sung by Anya

Dancing bears, Painted wings, Things I almost remember, And a song someone sings Once upon a December.

Someone holds me safe and warm. Horses prance through a silver storm. Figures dancing gracefully Across my memory…

    (Instrumental interlude)

Someone holds me safe and warm. Horses prance through a silver storm. Figures dancing gracefully Across my memory…

Far away, long ago, Glowing dim as an ember, Things my heart Used to know, Things it yearns to remember…

And a song Someone sings Once upon a December

    song now breakfast

Cleo, “break a leg” is reverse/superstitious well-wishing. THe idea is that by wishing something bad, the peversity of the powers-that-be will actually do something good for you, like helping make your performance stellar.

Messy eggs: open up the fridge, take two or three eggs, add some nice cheese (Gouda, Leiderkrantz, or whatever), a bit of onion, bell pepper, whatever in the veggie crisper looks good, and fry it all up. Yummmmmmy!

I hesitate to introduce a forbidden subject, but it’s not arguing about religion so much as explaining religious terms. Shouldn’t be too controversial. Last night, there was some confusion about ministers at liturgies. For Catholics, the acolyte or altar server is one who helps the presider by preparing the altar, moving and holding books, and so on. The Eucharistic Minister is one commissioned to distribute communion; the ordinary Euch. ministers are priest, deacon, and an instituted alcolyte; extraordinary EMs are laity commissioned just for distributing communion, either in church or out, such as to shut-ins or nursing homes.

Bmonk that is just to confusing for my brain today. ours is simple we are all brothers and sisters in the Lord. we call the minister Brother Marshell or Paster Marshell. and the elders are brother kirk and sister Crystal…

    okay i quit. sorry guys.

@bmonk - I think it should be okay to explain religious terms, as long as we stay away from theology or a “mine is better than yours” comments. I don’t agree with the theology of any religion other than mine, but I find it very interesting to study the cultures/terms used of other religions. Of course, if the majority of our comments revolve around religion or poltics, it will cause trolls to come out of the woodwork.

tabby Even though I’ve had a fair amount of experience with farm animals, my folks quit raising chickens before I came along. But from what I hear, geese are the ones that make great attack “dogs”. Did you tell the owner she has one less chicken? What happened to kill it? Was it salvageable to eat?

bmonk. Thanks for the clarification on acolytes. That’s what we were taught, but I also learned that each individual parish has it’s own terminology to some extent. So it is all “right” as long as those involved know what they are talking about. Not that I AM talking about anything that I’m not supposed to talk about, if you know what I mean, which I doubt!

@tabbylynn, just be glad you weren’t a shepherd back 1000 or 2000 years ago. Then the herder was responsible for any sheep that got eaten or lost. (Hence the foolishness of the “Good Shepherd” who not only lost a sheep, but went home and told everyone he’d lost it, while leaving the rest of the flock out to get themselves lost or killed!)

tabby - I’m familiar with the song. I’m terrible on knowing who sings a song, unless I’ve watched them. Probably because on the radio they don’t always say who the artist is for each song - or at least not at the end when I would pay attention better.

RMom thanks for the muffin - yummy! Joy I always scan the page - seems they say the same things day after day - I wonder if they just copy and paste old posts. It is frustrating yet mesmerizing! Tel Aviv search for mattress containing $1M life savingsStory Highlights •Israeli woman loses $1M as daughter dumps mattress containing life savings

•Security increased at city dump in Tel Aviv as search under way for mattress

•Publicity has triggered wave of people trying to find mattress and its contents updated 4 hours, 47 minutes agoNext Article in World » By Shira Medding CNN JERUSALEM (CNN) – It was supposed to be a pleasant surprise, but turned into the shock of a lifetime.

A woman scours a garbage heap in Tel Aviv for her mother’s missing mattress. A woman in Tel Aviv, Israel, gave her elderly mother a new mattress as a surprise gift, throwing out the old tattered bed her mother had slept on for decades. The gesture ended up bankrupting Annat’s mother, who had stuffed her savings of nearly $1 million inside her old bed for decades, Annat told Israel Army Radio.

A massive search is under way at the city dump, where security has been beefed up to keep out treasure-seekers who have heard Annat’s story in Israeli media.

Annat, who did not want to reveal the rest of her name, told Israel Army Radio that she woke up early Sunday to get a good deal on a new mattress as a surprise for her mother.

Sound off: Which bizarre places have you hidden money?

She fell asleep that night, exhausted after lugging up the new mattress and hauling down the old one to be taken out with the trash.

When her mother realized the next day what her daughter had done, she told her that she had been using the mattress to stash away her life savings and had nearly $1 million padding the inside of the worn-out mattress.

Annat ran downstairs, but it was too late. The garbage truck had already taken away the money-stuffed mattress.

Annat alerted the two major dump sites in the Israeli city in an effort to locate the bed, but so far she has had no luck. Yitchak Burba, one of the dump site managers, told Army Radio that he and his men are working relentlessly to try to help Annat find the million-dollar mattress among the tons of garbage at the landfill.

The publicity has triggered a wave of people also trying to find the mattress and its contents for themselves. Burba has increased security around the dump to keep them out.

Annat told Army Radio that when her mother realized her queen-sized bank had been tossed, she told her to “‘leave it.’”

“‘The heart is crying but you know we could have been in a car accident or had a terminal disease,’” Annat said her mother told her.

Annat is also taking the situation in stride.

“It’s a very, very sad story but I’ve been through worse,” she told Army Radio. “It’s a matter of proportions in life … people need to know how to accept the good and the bad in life.”

wow is all i can say.

tabby - I read that news article too. I think that the mom should have trusted her daughter enough to at least let her know that she was using the mattress as a bank. Maybe not how much, but at least told the daughter enough to prevent this from happening. What would have happened if the mom had died, had a stroke or something else suddenly that would have prevented her from sharing the info before it was too late?

100 degrees in Texas can feel very miserable if you happen to be in Houston where there is so much humidity. Down in Edcouch, where I used to spend the winters, the humidity was not so bad, but 100 anywhere is pretty intense.

Carmy: I think you are right about Bob Marley, but marvin Gaye also sang it. Ever heard him sing? We have a street near by called Marlee Ave., ‘cept everyone calls it Bob Marlee Ave., because it is close to Little Jamaica.

My arm is much better thank you, thanks to all your prayers, good wishes and the Tribel bank. Boy, hope our bank never goes belly up!

Carmy, Nanaimo was named for the Coast Salish people whose name was Snuneymuxw (Snuh-NAY-moo). They were the original inhabitants. A lot of the names here are either Coast Salish or very British (Victoria)

    G’night JDoc

Shika, Nanaimo bars did come from Nanaimo -or at least are named for it. It’s a great place to live!

I LOVE Lucy too! And Cary Grant. And for some reason, I had a crush on George Peppard when I was a teen ager or so. I think it was Patton or some war movie like that. Lord, I fell hard for him.

Goodnight Shika! Hello JFri! I like Quigley Down Under and Dirty Harry too. Dr. Zhivago was too long for me. Cleo, I like all the movies you posted. What about Key Largo? I like Edward G. Robinson. He was great in the Ten Commandments too. So I have heard from Tabby and she is okay. She is a bit upset about the lady for whom she is chicken-sitting. Just send Tabby some good thoughts and energy. Now, it’s time for me to go to bed. You all have fun. Think of some more cool movies and I’ll read your posts in the morning. Good Night! Ooh. The Sons of Katie Elder is a good one. A very young Dennis Hopper comes out in that one. Okay, i’m outta here.

Hi people - Good to see everyone is doing well. Sorry for causing any undue concern. I’ve been sort occupied elsewhere than on the toon scene lately. since being unemployed, I’m doing the Resume Tango making calls and emailing everyone I can think of. I was told I was wasting too much time playing with comics and I’ve been feeling sorta useless lately.

Thanks for the calls, I’m OK. I’ll just be occupied elsewhere for awhile till this economy gets straightened out and I can get resettled again.
