Ah for the good old days when a S&M strip was a stereotype and “They” were responsible for child abuse and floods in NO. Things were so clear in that “glass darkly.”
I know, Jack. You can date a girl but you can’t date a comic strip unless you find an archive. Come to think of it, these days maybe women and guys should come with a mandated surgery archive.
@jackdohany, the date is on the copyright between panel 1 and 2 and is almost unreadable, but this would have been the1984 campaign. And uh, I think there ARE still some bars in SF that cater to that sort of thing…
Yes, yes, we all know about the times a’changing. Eddie Murphy could declare in the early 1980s, “I make fun of homosexuals a lot, because they’re homosexuals,” and get a guaranteed laugh. It was funnier in context. Get over it.
Bob & Ernie are such a cute couple! I really hope they managed to get married in the all-too-short time it was legal. (Assuming they wished to get married, of course.)
As for being out of shape (in the above comments); I’ll just note that not all leathermen are buff!

little stereotyping here…. Both the couple and the san-fran. Signs of the times when this was originally drawn.

I wish they’d tell us the original dates of the strips. Is that classified info or something?

To me, the funniest part is seeing someone that out of shape dressing that way without being on a motorcycle; it’s so wrong, I have to laugh.
jackdohany: In the corner of the first panel, it says 7/11, and it probably doesn’t refer to craps or convenience stores.

To me the copyright notice looks like 1984 Washington Post Co.

Before yjr Castro became it’s reputation, the Polk Street corridor was the “place”.
