The class of ’76 got tired of all the bicentennial hype.

The make over was a big thing.

In the colonial and revolutionary era the word Liberty was a catch phrase that meant: End Slavery Now! It was borne with the Stono rebellion of 1739. Something I think Benjamin Franklin was solely responsible for. 13 years later in 1752 Franklin debuts The Liberty Bell with “Let Liberty Ring, Leviticus 25:10” emblazoned right on the bell. This statue in New York harbor has absolutely nothing to do with the way the word Liberty was used in those days. In other words, the statue of liberty censors the Liberty Bell.

The Statue of Liberty was undergoing restoration between ’84 and ’86. Hence all the excess hype.

I heartily wish the tentacles of politics would not reach into comics, discussions and comments on comics, or discussions and comments about discussions and comments on comics.

How about the Statue of Liberty in Better Call Saul? A thing of beauty indeed.

That was in honor of the Statue of Liberty’s 100th anniversary back in 1986.
