John: Please, can't you just put him in remedial? Let Stan handle it? Principal: I thought about that, but then we got his standardized test scores. John: What, is he as smart as the other kids? Principal: John, the boy is smarter than you. We were going to give him your job. John: Really!? Principal: I'm joking, John. Well, joking about the job, sorta. But he is definitely smarter than you. John: Thanks.

Its funny (not really funny at all) how the teacher automatically incredulously wonders if kids from the inner city could possibly be as smart as the other kids he teaches.

When a student outsmarts you, you know you’re on the verge of being dethroned.

When a student is smarter than I and has mastered what I’m teaching, I assign him or her to teach one of the kids who needs help. You gotta keep an eye on what’s going on, but if you do, everyone wins.
