“If it bleeds it leads” the underlying theme and structure of tv news programming .
Today’s Journalism is sensationalism—-Trying to keep a viewer’s attention is a challenge.
Facts and truth have been replaced with opinions and conjecture. TV news hosts aren’t real reporters—- they’re actors, playing a part…
Walter Cronkite ? Edward R Murrow ? Chet Huntley and David Brinkley are dead and gone, their style and techniques of personally researching a story, typing it and making it ready for broadcast and then reporting it truthfully and accurately has been replaced by people with a specified corporate / political agenda, a network’s writing team that has a new goal in mind. The old saying “All isms die is true with journalism”
Good illustration of a cartoonist with a political agenda denouncing the decent of journalism into political agenda. Actual news programming is fairly good in the short time periods when that’s what they do. Prime time on all those channels is opinionated sniping.
It is sad how much people only want to believe the people who support their own beliefs, and call anyone who try to speak truth “fake news”.
Yes there are a lot of lazy journalists out there who do not do adequate research or source verification; and there are many out there who just seem to make up what they want to to be true and state it as facts. Most journalists are professionals, but that is also why we the people need to check multiple sources of information and weigh the agenda of the journalists or their bosses.
I guess the point that I am making is that it is not the journalists that are the problem as much as it is the people who consume what the journalists produce.
The strongest enemy of corrupt politicians is journalism. So for corrupt politicians to thrive, they have to convince you that the news you read is false.
In many cases I’d agree with the judge. Too many reporters (won’t use the term journalists) think they have a God given right to do what they want, when they want, how they want
