Once, and once only, I saw Wile E. actually speak. After being compressed to a small stature by a falling object (anvil?) his eye rotates to break the fourth wall and he says: “Ouch.”

The coyote’s entire career had been one long Jackie Chan blooper reel.

Obviously not a very good one – they’re supposed to do the stunts and not get hurt.

Hope he’s not insured by Acme.

Now I get it! I’ve always wondered how Wile E. Coyote gets smashed by falling rocks, blown up, and just generally decimated, then comes back fully restored in the next scene. I never realized that toons use stunt doubles!
