A friend of mine going in for surgery demanded that they tell him in advance everything they were going to do. He knew his body. It “recognized” the anesthetic as something “foreign” and neutralized it. He regained consciousness and reached to remove the tube from his throat… something they had neglected to tell him about. The doctor was alert enough to realize what was happening, and said, “Don’t; that’s letting you breathe.” My friend dropped his hand and let them continue.
