Nushi update: Nushi started off strong yesterday (Wed), but seemed a bit out of sorts later in the day. She ate well in the am, but then spent the rest of the day with just few nibbles here and there, though she kept wanting something. Her eyes looked a bit off and a bit more of the nictating membrane was showing than is usual for her. she keeps scratching at her head/ears in a really violent spasm like way. I’ve talked to 2 vets who didn’t seem to know what would cause that. Today, she literally sat there and put the top of her head on the floor to rub it. I’m worried, and I want to eliminate anything obviously wrong with her ears or other that we may have missed so I’m taking her in to the vet tomorrow at 4pm PDT. I keep thinking that if the FIP virus was attacking her poor brain that maybe this is a side effect of her brain healing/fighting off the virus. With FIP neuro there can be lesions on the brain and her head tilt was pretty severe. I know stroke victims can have some odd symptoms/spasms as their brains heal…Anyone know anything about this? Ideas?
It was really hot here today and I’m hoping that might be part of her malaise. For Seattle 93 degrees is punishing for those of us who don’t have air-conditioning, which is most of us. My old house doesn’t have much insulation, so I have fans set up and I have a portable air-conditioner for the front room/living room because it doesn’t have good ventilation to cool off otherwise. We’re just not set up for it here, though more retailers, restaurants, etc. are getting air conditioning every year as our weather has been trending hotter in the summer.
I kept a close watch on Nushi and kept her in the coolest room and wet down the area outside in her catio where she likes to hang out. If she is dehydrated, it’s just a little as she passed the skin test.
I don’t want to worry everyone, and I admit to being a bit of a worrier. Hopefully it’s nothing more than part of the process of getting better.
