Two comics so far today with ouija boards (Liz Climo Cartoons being the other). And here I’ve gone decades without seeing a single one.
Speaking of decades, it is my birthday. I am an amazing 70 years old today, October 14. Wow, never expected that. I am happy to say, though, that I am in excellent health and walk up to six miles a day.
I had intended to spend this special birthday in one of my favorite places, Egypt, but with Covid, well, that didn’t happen. I had planned to have a little party with the Giza pyramids as a background.
So, instead, the special birthday menu is waffles, bacon and eggs for brunch and later carry out (Covid, again) from a favorite restaurant — the best ribs I’ve ever tasted, plus a salad and either onion rings or a baked potato. They send me a birthday coupon each year for a slice of chocolate cake, but that will go in the freezer for later.
I made a Hungarian cake, a walnut torte, for my birthday evening dessert. It is a very rich cake, not too sweet, made with lots of ground walnuts and eight eggs. I made a rich walnut buttercream frosting (lots of butter and ground walnuts and some milk and a little sugar) to go between the layers (I made four layers) and covered the outside with flowers piped from an incredible dark chocolate sour cream frosting (the dark chocolate frosting is not authentic Hungarian for this cake, but it is so delicious). So, no, I won’t put 70 candles on it.
