OT – Sad news. Our dear old boy, ShadowCat, left us this morning. He showed up on our porch in Spring of ‘22, weighing 4 1/2 pounds, trembling and hardly able to stand, with three paws on the Rainbow Bridge. Feral Momma HedgeCat must have showed him the way in and gave him her sleeping basket and shared her food and water, standing next to him. So he was clearly meant to be cared for by us. He was a loving old guy whose backstory we’ll never know. The vet said he was ancient, and gave us thyroid medicine that put him right and gave him some extra time. But he stopped eating yesterday, and fell asleep peacefully this morning. We could tell by the way he trusted people and craved being petted that someone, sometime, had loved him a lot. Don’t know what happened to cause this sweet, neutered, but not microchipped old guy to be out wandering and sick. He’s left a cat-sized hole in our hearts.
Strange coincidence: I just found a bouquet on the porch, sent by my sister for my 75th birthday today.
