Originally I wrote this strip to specific lyrics to “I can do it with a broken heart,” by Taylor Swift—a song I really think captures Sophie’s whole journey this year! (Also a song I love myself!) When I reached out to my editor and they reached out to the legal department to get the specifics on “how many lyrics is too many lyrics to use from a song”, they VERY UNDERSTANDABLY said that unfortunately maybe one line could be used, but the rest would need to be parody. I’ve only mostly ever dealt in parody lyrics, so this made sense!
I’ll try to share a little video on social media today of how I originally planned out these panels! And over on Patreon in a few days, I’ll share this strip in color! Because—look closely!—I originally painted this strip in full color and then changed the hues in Photoshop, dropping a scan of the inked lines over the final version! This needed to be in color (for me and for Sophie to really enjoy ourselves making this mess, lol!), and exists in real life in full vibrancy!
