Talking donuts and mind probes on Brewster don’t count as intelligent life?

This begs the old joke: “Of course there is intelligent life, that is why it has not contacted us.”

Mel doesn’t remember all the aliens he’s encountered on the ship because Agent X keeps neuralizing him.

Now the Sirens have a still more fatal weapon than their song, namely their silence. … [I]t is conceivable that someone might possibly have escaped from their singing; but from their silence certainly never.`Franz Kafka The Silence of the Sirens(1924)

If there is intelligent life out there watching us, why don’t we hear them laughing at the stupidity? We do have Fox News going on all day…

If you ask scientists why we don’t try to contact other civilizations the answer is that we’re afraid.

The other part of the Drake equation omits the fact that if by happenstance a technologically oriented society (like outs) evolves, it has a lifespan of about 6,000 years before it self destructs. I mean, does anyone think we can last another 500 years?
