I watched CARRIE for the first time with a couple of friends from the United Nations building next door in Luanda one Saturday night using TV and VCR. The next afternoon we went to the beach at kilometre 17 south of town.
“Dah-veed, deed you ’ave nightmauhs last night”
“No, Danielle, not a single one.”
“’Ow? ’Ow could you not ’ave nightmauhs? I deed!”
“Simple, Danielle. I haven’t been able to sleep since then.”
(Other ladies were told I ‘ad the movie so naturally they ’ad to see it too. I saw it at least three more times by the end of the week. By then I was noticing the mother’s aptly selected song, POWER IN THE BLOOD, and other little details. It was not my type, but well done. Stephen King’s books were lying around, so I started to read them. Extremely good as they were, I finally had to quit because THEY were giving me nightmares. Not telekinesis, little girld who started fires psychopyrotically, or men who could tell a man would become president and start a nuclear war if not stopped, or monsters, people who admired and emulated Nazis and people who randomly killed on foggy evenings. THOSE monsters actually exist!)

Poor Winky, it’s quite normal for him to have injuries to his spleen on any day.

When I was a kid, that robot from The Day The Earth Stood Still (the first one) gave me nightmares.

I know what you mean. Gort scared the heck out of me, and that was just in the previews, back when the movie was new.
