2020 was an innocent bystander. It was The Year of the Rat and won’t taper off until February 12th. I’m ready to chase it off with baseball-sized fireworks.
It’s not the year. Blaming the year is nothing but a way to bury your head in the sand and try to ignore the fact that our troubles this year are due in very large measure to very specific people committing very specific deeds of commission, omission and dereliction that put us where we are. We need to decide how best to prevent such racist, misogynist, corrupt, irresponsible, cowardly and above all stupid leadership from taking power again.
My law practice did extraordinarily well. I published numerous articles and a book. We traveled and hiked a lot. I read more than ever. My family is happy and healthy. Overall, 2020 was pretty good at my house.

The Lakers and the Dodgers won championships. That made me smile. (Of course I didn’t get to go to any parades.)

Some years don’t bother to have a skeleton in their closet.

Murder hornets and mail-in ballots go together? Who knew? Oh, the geezer gets evicted at midnight so he has no more time left to keep looking.

Mail-in ballots are great! Everyone should use them in every election.

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
…
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
— William Butler Yeats predicted Trumplethinskin.
