It’s amazing what most dogs will put up with from children. I had a doberman when my child was born, and she learned to walk by pulling on the dog’s skin (short fur) to stand up. That dog was protective, but not overly so. When company came over, she more or less “showed off” HER baby. It was not unusual for her to want to sleep near the crib at night.
