My brother didn’t forgive something I had done in my youth for 43 years. Often I think, how many beautiful things we could have done during this long time!!! Now we are old people and he still will not forgive!
In this case things may be a bit better the longer you stay away. If she worries enough or misses you enough it might soften your punishment or she may hold that against you too. “Two wrongs don’t make a right !”
Hope they don’t get lost. It will get dark before you know it. AHHH …..The long summer nights. Around here you can stay outside almost till 9 pm. before you see the sunset over the horizon. However, you’ll need to have some OFF spray. It seems skeeters like the summer nights aswell.
Going home should be “as easy as falling off a log”, but for Calvin it ‘wood’ be hard. He’d be ‘up the creek without a paddle’. Calvin ‘can’t see the forest for the trees’, so he has a ‘stream’ of excuses.
Wattersons drawing is what attracted me to this strip … the last panel is good example.
Ladywolf LOL !
Puddleglum - you are an inexhaustible puddle of puns!
LX013,
I understand that “it’s very sad…”, but don’t be controlled by someone’s unwillingness to forgive. Forgive the person for not forgiving you and free yourself of the suffering and burden!
midiranger said,
“Puddleglum - you are an inexhaustible puddle of puns!”
I just hope it doesn’t make anybody ‘glum’. Not everybody likes puns.
BTW, are there a maxiranger and a miniranger, or are you the lone ranger?
LX013, some things are unforgivable. My sister did something unforgivable and I refuse to have anything further to do with her or her family, even if it were a matter of life and death.
People who don’t forgive, still want to receive forgiveness.
Something to ruminate about, runar.
Nothing is unforgivable, it might be harder to do it, but not impossible.
tamron is right on!
Disclaimer: The following is for anyone who is interested. You may accept, reject or ignore it, as you will.
“Take heed to yourselves: If your brother trespasses against you, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.”
Luke 18:3 That is for reconciliation!
There’s another forgiveness that’s required for any offence, It relates to revenge.
“…Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord.”
Romans 12:19 However, that doesn’t negate justice.
Mike B said: What’s he mean WE, Hobbes is innocent.
Given the fact that Hobbes “helped” Calvin push the car out of the garage and into the driveway, causing it to then roll downhill into a ditch, he isn’t quite so innocent in this latest escapade of theirs!
Runar
I am sure, that sometimes it seems you cannot forgive it’s a hardening of heart! I was very very sorry, but when I saw, he doesn’t want to have anything to do with me, I lived my life and tried to forget it!
Right-o GretchensMom. We tend to forget that Hobbes is an extension of Calvin’s ego. Darned clever that Watterson.
Yes and no. A good character often takes on an existence of its own. Many authors will try to get the character to behave and do as the author wants, but can’t–the character simply would not do it. Same here: Calvin may have imagined Hobbes, but now he is as he is.
Runar is talking about his sister’s family, so that makes it his family, too. He was joking so don’t feel sorry for him or blame him for being a stubborn old coot.
I hate to say it but I’m human (No smart alec remarks). I would love to be forgiven but in the Prayer it says “as we forgive the tress passes of others”. There is the hard part, in order to be forgiven, I must forgive. Lord, give me strength. Let me be able to forgive. I’m not that strong.
Go home Calvin. You are still her boy. The car is a material object, covered by insurance no doubt, and is replaceable. You on the other hand aren’t. You will be punished, but it will feel better than running away. Plus aren’t you getting hungry, and night will fall. I don’t see your shelter…..
