If you ever read any of the comments that people post at the end of Yahoo’s stories, you would realise that there are already mamy who have followed Calvins plan…
I hope Calvin counts his blessings that he wasn’t born in Japan!!! Maybe if American kids were reminded weekly of the Japanese school system, there’d be a lot less complaining…
I haven’t seen snow in over 30 years, so really enjoy the “snowy” strips.
Hola Fer Lefer
I only speak a few words of Spanish, and could use some help here (another “snowy” strip):

I would have been on board with Calvin’s plan when I was his age, way, way, way, way, way back when. Each way represents a decade. And now each decade goes by faster and faster.
Ahhhhh, to be young and living at home. Never a worry or thought about money, mortgage payments, car payments, college funding for kids, the economy, 401(K) performance…. Man, that would be the life.
Sadly I have a son almost like Calvin were educaion is concerned. I tried to get him for higher education he wouldn’t. Can’t kick him out he would be homeless. He wants to stock shelves thought over thousand applies. He doesn’t do drugs or drink either. More hermit.
@lakesnake Where are you? Great Lakes area?
It’s 79 degrees in the shade on my patio right now - I just walked in the park in shorts & shirtsleeves. Calvin would probably hate it here (no snow!). Of course he could probably think of some creative things to do at the beach. I’m in the Ft. Lauderdale, FL, area.
As a kid I remember feeling the same way as Calvin. I just wanted to stay home and play with my stuffed toys…only when it was bad weather though, otherwise it was outside with all your friends! Great memories!
I used to live for snow storms at that age, I’d go sledding down a big hill near my house along with every other kid in the area, great fun but now I now I never see snow in south Florida.
In my grandfather’s day he was considered well educated to have made it through the 6th grade. After that he went to work riding logs down the river to the pulp mill. After that he did any job or jobs to provide for his family. When I was a kid he decided he wanted to take the test to be a prison guard. He went to the local library and read all about what he missed in science, history, and math by not going to high school. He studied hard for five years and then took the test to get his high school equivalency. He took the guard’s test and aced it! We were all so proud of what he had accomplished on his own! He retired from the prison and was always being confronted by the guys he guarded who got out of prison who thanked him for his support and for their successful rehabilitation. He was definitely a great role model!
Florchi:
I was born and raised in Sarasota, so I know what you mean about not having snow. Of course, Sarasota has the whitest sugar sand of any place and could blind you on a sunny day.
I did venture up to NY and NC a few years here and there, so I knew how much fun snow was, but most of my childhood was spent on the beach and fishing!!!
Calvin you need to learn to write. Then you need to learn to write just like your mom right down to her signature. That’s what I did. Doesn’t work quite as well now, but when you were young. Yup!

Another future high school dropout.
I never saw the value of school until I couldn’t get the kind of challenging work I wanted with the pay that goes with it.

Ah! There is the point. The school’s management is responsible for making the school so good that children are raring to go everyday.

Florchi, you should be here. We got over 20 inches of snow Tuesday. It has warmed up, this am it’s 10 degrees instead of yesterday at 4 degrees.

Something tells me that once Calvin makes it to Junior High School, he will look forward to going to school – at least just for the shop classes.
Imagine all the things Calvin could make with INDUSTRIAL POWER EQUIPMENT!

If you can find today’s “Dennis the Menace”, which is not on gocomics, he has a good idea combining snow and school.

Nope.
I was in grade school in Tucson where it snowed about once every 5 or 6 years so I never had thoughts about playing in the snow.
