I don’t get my email notification for another 3 hours but I kept yesterday’s so I could get in a bit earlier tonight. This is really good and I don’t remember a thing from the original run so it’s all new to me. Where the heck is Dad in all this? So far it’s just been Mom and now Mrs. Wormwood. Poor Dad is missing out!
Calvin, it’s a little hard to think of installing an Ethicator when the designer has no ethics at all.
And here’s another reason why I like Good Calvin so much: his ability and eagerness to answer questions. That was (and remains) me all over. Here’s to ENFPs who apply themselves… :))
Twinsnake raised a good point. We see Calvin jumping from home to school and back again. Is he imagining his discussion with Hobbes back at the house or is he imagining his presence at school? Or is Watterson leaping us hours ahead to show what happened the next day in school? Or could it be that Calvin is actually in two places at the same time? Either way it is a beautiful exercise in comic humor never utilized by any other artist that I remember.
This is a great play out but things get really fun right about here. And David and Twinsnake, if I remember, that issue is never actually addressed so I guess the belief is that the “good” Calvin is the real one since he is interacting with everyone but I may be mistaken.
I looked this story arc up in one of my Calvin and Hobbes books. I couldn’t wait. Want me to tell you all what happens? Nah, I won’t ruin it for you all! :-D
Ah, the Duplicator with the optikonal ethiocator. Works for me!
This arc is a great example of why Watterson’s a comic genius and why me and the rest of the world miss this strip and are so grateful for these re-runs.
This strip of Calvin the good one versus evil reminds me a TV show on ages ago back in 90’s called Family Matters. Now adult back then teen placed Steve Urkel. Has a personality machine and duplicate himself to a suave guy to win his love of Laura.
The issue of what’s real and what isn’t is never really resolved in Calvin and Hobbes. If you want Bill Watterson’s perspective on it, take a look in the tenth anniversary book- there’s an interesting section about Hobbes’ reality that can be extended to Calvin’s other fantasies.
I don’t wait for my email notification to get the comics. The site is on my “favorites” with an icon on the screen. It is almost the first thing I go to when I power up the computer.
JohnDiFool: the very act of observing would have collapsed the wave function immediately. Maybe the duplicator works similar to the transporter on Star Trek. Remember the episode “The Enemy Within” where Captain Kirk gets split into two beings one evil and one good.
Calvin has a good side?!? I thought he was all mischief and living in his own little “it’s all about me!!!” universe! (Which doesn’t necessarily make him a completely bad kid … just thoughtless and selfish most of the time.)
Ah, the wonders of an old cardboard box, and the many hours of fun as a kid. What kid (or former kid) out there has never played with one and had many adventures.
The best ones were from large appliance deliveries with double thick walls.
Regardless of the position of the prognosticator indicator, if Calvin’s box experiences an unexpected power surge, what comes out of it will resemble something out of Jim Carrey’s “The Mask”. His mother may need hospitalization….
Do not give me this bleeep .
Suzie dont like the duplicator
Mom will not like the duplicator.
Mrs Wormwood will miss Calvin.
Dad will have a fit if he thinks hes lost his only Calvin.
And I do not like that piece of pasta .its Calvin I want

Ms. Wormwood is easily fooled.
Calvin has got everything planned except for meals.

So is writing ‘evil’ on the box as one of the arrow positions a fundamental design error, or just a potential user interface issue?

Boy is Mrs. Wormwood going to be disappointed when Calvin returns to normal.
Good morning, Marg, Mike & ♠Lonewolf♠!

True, Mrs. Wormwood will look back on this short period as “the Arcadia of my middle age” and wonder just why it happened and why it ended.

What is mom going to say when she doesn’t see the good Calvin hanging out with Hobbes?
This shows what we already know. If Calvin applies himself he could do well at school.

“Or could it be that Calvin is actually in two places at the same time?”
That would make Calvin a mass of virtual particles whose wavefunction hasn’t collapsed yet, which would explain a lot actually. Schrodinger’s Tiger?
