That’s true Calvin…happiness lies in such small and unimportant things… If only people of the world would understand this simple thing the world would have been such a peaceful place to be in….but alas..

I wish Calvin has a happy life.

Yeah, Calvin. Don’t you just hate that? Hobbes can be so inconsiderate sometimes. ;)

There is a certain Eloisian quality to Hobbes’ wish that, quite frankly, scares me just a little.

Here is a quotation from Henry David Thoreau:“If I could command the wealth of all the worlds by lifting my finger, I would not pay such a price for it.”

After the cool spring and early summer that we have had here in the PNW, we are finally having summer like weather, so I feel exactly like Hobbes on this matter.

The juxtaposition of Hobbes to Calvin is always fun to see, especially because Hobbes is (generally) so good at getting Calvin to see the different perspective. You can make yourself miserable wishing about what you don’t have, or enjoy the moment and the things that you do have – simple. It’s essential to have goals, but happiness is a moment in time.

looks like God has given us everything we need to be happy.

This one would translate directly into Red & Rover.

Hobbes’ view is far afield from what Calvin had in mind!

A much later episode had pretty much the same punchline, only the wish was for a sandwich, which he prepared himself and gloated that he got it. (Calvin had wished for, among other things, a private continent, making him Lex Luthor, Jr.)

Ah, yes: Calvin, the poster-boy for greed, always wanting more, thinking that it will satisfy his heart, when Hobbes is nearer the mark..Still, our nature will not rest until we have found the one thing that can fill the void in our deepest self. A warm, sunny field is closer than power and riches, but is still infinitely far from what we really need in the end..“Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in thee.” — Saint Augustine

My cat gets comfy like that in the house of course,Oh I envy him.

How about a field of dreams realized?

Hobbes in the 4th panel . . . on his back, happily snoozing away. This is exactly how my dog looks every night on our bed before we go to sleep! So peaceful, so content, so stress- and worry-free. Oh, how I envy her!!!!! :-)

I can wish for anything. The problem is getting what I wished for.

If you are not happy with the good things you have today – you will never be happy with the things that come your way tomorrow.

The road to success is discontent. The road to happiness is gratitude. How you get to each is a measure of character.

Calvin could join Hobbes, but then his mom would want to know how the grass stains got on his jacket!
