My thoughts and prayers are with all Americans that have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. Will those people who have lost homes and vehicles be covered by their insurance? Here in South Africa we have to have a special clause covering storm damage. Acts of God are excluded from cover.
Thanks to all who pasted in the URL’s for the Calvin grows up (Not sure Hobbes did). It really caught the essence of the original and best of all, didn’t destroy the memory of the original. C matures some, S (who looks a bit like C’s mom) has come his direction a bit, Hobbes hasn’t changed, and Bacon is believable as a kid who’s a lot like her mom and dad were growing up. Also, C and S seem to actually really love each other in terms of fun, respect etc., as well as love Bacon (just can’t imagine C’s dad playing with C the way C plays with Bacon). AND All the characters can see Hobbes as alive, not just as a stuffed animal.
Ah compulsory public schooling: force the kids into a new mindset every hour or 55 minutes; put down that project you were working on and never take real ownership or complete thought in any of them (and whatever pride you might have built).
Fight the good fight, Calvin…the whole world wants to wear you into a state of submission. Never surrender!-“Acts of God” in terms of disaster is a sham. God only brings disaster for terrible atrocities by first following strict protocols: He first warns everyone, explains what needs to change to avert, then makes safe passage for those who comply. He’ll even decide not to bring it at times. None of the weather tragedies fit those protocols, so they cannot be blamed on Him. (There, that should start a fight…:-)
In areas where Calvin is properly motivated, he learns incredibly well: look at his knowledge of dinosaurs, or his vocabulary. His ability to create poll results and graphs for his Dad’s re-election campaign.
The trick is motivating him to learn the basics—then it won’t matter if he’s an hour late to class.
This is a statement, at least part, of why little boys (and big ones too, probably) don’t fit in with the female-dominated school system agenda. Boys just weren’t made to sit for long hours—they need activity! Which can/should be structured, otherwise, Lord of Flies. Anyway, I think Watterson was very perceptive about this, and thus THIS strip. But will “educators” EVER GET IT????

An “act of God” is an act of God whether anyone is an atheist or not.

And when homeowners turn a claim in on weather damaged they jack the price up to make up for what they are out.
Stay safe tonight all. Thoughts to all the East on storm damaged.

We don’t celebrate Halloween, we celebrate All Saint’s day and All Soul’s day! Some people celebrate Halloween, but it’s not an European celebration!
