If you ever want to know what kind of bear is chasing you, climb a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and kills you, it’s a black bear. If it knocks down the tree and kills you, it’s a grizzly bear. If if there was no tree to begin with, it’s a polar bear.
My halfpennyworth to the grammar debate: ‘did’ and ‘meant’ in the same sentence is also irregular, although many of my students keep making the same mistake.
No use running from a bear, they are much faster! We are lucky in California to have mellow bears; I watched a mom and her 2 cubs walk right past a fisherman in Mammoth Lakes, picking up the fish he had just caught without missing a beat. Haha, he ran to his car and locked the door!!
@Zero-Gabriel: Being Hobbes, I know what you mean. I would never post here if I were a real person. But I’m going to tell Susie that you’ve been poking fun at her. :>)
Comment to all: Please keep in mind that English is not everyone’s first language on this site, and that occasionally we have posters here who are in elementary school. Personally, I think it’s fun to see all of the writing styles here from various cultures and generations, and sometimes to try to figure out what someone is trying to say.
Agreed. Often the comments are posted in a hurry and not all of us are perfect typists. Sometimes, the use of the wrong word, such as "there’ for “their” or “they’re” bothers me, but I am not the poster’s English teacher.
I completely agree with Hobbes (and by the way, with A Common ‘tater) about the use of English in these posts. We don’t need to have a linguistic police, as far as the posts are perfectly intelligible. Moreover, some of us do not have English as first language, nor as a second or third one :-)
and with Hobbes and Tacopielvr: DEAR HEAVEN! Can we leave some room for “poetic license” here? It’s a ‘toon, one; and this is a forum for (hopefully clean and relatively pleasant) creative, comic expression, two. I’m a language nut (including grammar) but I know expression for effect when I see it. And yes, some people are posting in a foreign-to-them tongue or are youngsters.
It’s been how many days since Calvin’s been missing, and there’s not a comic strip about his parents wondering where he is? They clearly must not care that Calvin’s gone.

I’ve been chased by a mom bear after messing with her cub. This behaviour is not recommended.
