There’s no shortage of heroes in Calvin’s life. Stupendous Man, Spaceman Spiff, ……. stalwarts all.

We are lucky when they DO end up in prison…..far too many of the rich and famous wriggle out of crimes that would have poor folks in Jail for years……

Dour S – I agree with you 100%.

Bill Watterson inspired some of us by not commercializing Calvin and Hobbes and thereby turning down a lot of personal gain. Wish he could have made one exception, however, by making a stuffed Hobbes available for kids to enjoy. While I greatly respect Bill for standing by his principles and making a big personal sacrifice that few of us would ever consider, I would respect him even more if he could have brought pleasure to children in this one way. Perhaps he could have donated the proceeds to a children’s hospital. Bill made the decision against commercialization when he was still quite young. As we grow older, we understand more and more that few things in this world are completely black and white. Even comic strips have shades of gray.

Interesting that this should run on the day Tom Brady eludes punishment.

Watterson didn’t want kids to have Hobbes stuffed toys because he wanted Hobbes to be unique (which he certainly was!) As for commrecializing, I’ve never had a problem with cartoonists who put their characters on tee shirts or calendars or toys. But using them in commercials for cars or life insurance or things that had NOTHING to do with the comic strip always kind of grated on me.

Politicians are the worst role models, BUT the best entertainment!

Celebrities who give to charities and get involved with them are heroes. Not all of them are the “Don’t talk to me, I’m famous” type.xxx

Hey, let’s all applaud Tom Brady dodging his misdeeds! There’s a great example of heroism.

Isn’t it interesting how Bernie Madoff, who certainly committed a serious crime affecting a great many people, received 150 years in prison with no chance of parole, while murderers and rapists often are out of prison after only a few years or even a few months?
