Dad, you should know by now that if there’s one thing a kid Calvin’s age loves to do, it’s jump into a pile of newly raked leaves and scatter it all over Creation. I did that all the time when I was a kid. Of course, it always pays to heed Linus’ Rule: “Never jump into a pile of leaves while holding a wet sucker!”
Is this the spirit of Snoopy acting out his bird predator routine? Or is it the demon from Calvin’s bicycle taking an appropriate shape given his recent leaves problem exacting some kind of revenge? What an imagination this kid’s got!
Every Wednesday the leaf-blowing monsters hit my apartment complex. All day long I have to hear it. I want to run screaming (a much more pleasant sound) into the yard and STOP THEM! I hate them so much!
Thinking that the era Bill Waterson drew these was before the Leaf Blower became common or electric leaf blowers even existed. And I doubt Bill (whose values I think partly provide animus for Calvin’s father).
When women swept the sidewalk and raked the leaves, it was done manually. When men started doing it, they needed power, stink and noise…..hence, power broom.

Calvin probably lives in a no leaf blower neighborhood.

I have an electric leaf blower that makes almost no noise. Works like a champ, as long as I string enough cords together.

My top 3 comics dealt with leaves today. Isn’t that a sign of collusion or worse yet, comic fixing?

I only use mine on weekdays when most people are at work.
BTW, they work great for cleaning the rain gutters, too.

Julie’s one of those insufferable, know-it-all, only-my-ideas-have-merit-and-if-you-disagree-with-me-you-don’t-count kind of people.

@Night-Gaunt49It strikes me as possible that you would burn more calories using a leaf blower than you would raking.

In the “old days,” Calvin’s dad would have burned the leaves by now. Problem gone, and a nice sign of fall.

If you have a gigantic shovel, it could be faster to get all the leaves back up.

They were around in the mid 1980s assaulting my ears.

My electric leaf blower is quiet and does double duty drying my just-washed motorcycles!

Trees are beautiful.
In my opinion. They get more beautiful as they get older.
I thought Hobbes was in that pile of leaves.

Squirrels make excellent stew meat. Just remember to shake and stir the pot, just to make sure the bullet went all the way through. Just sayin’…

Calvin’s imagination sure inspires some odd monsters.
