It’s all a matter of the distance you run and how fast, not the ability to control time. It just appears that way.

The timepiece that’s traveling WITH you close to the speed of light won’t show any change at all. It’s only slower RELATIVE to clocks in a different frame of reference. That’s why it’s called the theory of relativity.

I’d post a picture of myself but I don’t want to make your clocks stop.

I’m sorry I’m a kid and have no idea what the theory of relativity is. What is it exactly? It feels easier to ask someone here…

Unscientifically speaking, I think that the theory of relativity is that how relatives treat you, is in proportion to the amount of money they think you might leave for them in your will.

Cosmologists and astrophysicists spent years and hundreds of millions of $$ trying to prove Relativity. What a waste. All they needed was a little boy, a red wagon, and a Swatch.

Without the Michelson /Morley experiments, Einstein would never have known that the speed of light is a constant, and we wouldn’t have a theory of relativity.

It might help if they could approach relativistic speeds such as .01 of C or 1860 miles per second

In panel five, isn’t Calvin trying to use gravity assist (the “slingshot effect”) to gain velocity?

Replying to some questions and comments from yesterday:.‘Vortex’ was a gasoline octane booster commonly used by sports car racers in the late 1970’s. When high octane gasoline Sunoco 280 disappeared from the market, octane booster were necessary for the survival of high compression four cylinder race motors. Later, most racers switched to aviation fuel. .Hubby is very much alive. Right now he is building himself a paint booth in the garage so he can repaint the old bugeye and hopefully, sell it..He has no fear of fire, probably a result of time spent of as a combat medic in Vietnam. “The thing you have to do,” Hubby says, “is teach yourself not to panic at the sight of fire. Then, you can respond to it logically.”.That conversation came about because I had a 2liter Datsun convertible which habitually caught fire and he was presenting me with a ‘Smokey the Bear aerosol can fire extinguisher.’The ’mechanic’s wife’ story of my car is best saved for another day.

What I want to know is how we can tell which objects are stationary and which are in motion. Since an object in motion is only in motion relative to another object, how do we tell that the space station isn’t "station"ary while the Earth is whirling around it? Maybe Scott’s older brother is now 5 milliseconds younger than he was before . . .

We demonstrate the “truth” of relativity every time we use our GPS. The readings from GPS satellites have to be corrected (and are) for relativistic time dilation or positioning would be significantly off.

To the observer on board a craft approaching the speed of light, there would be no perceived slowing of time. Time would appear to not have changed at all.
