Jubilant throngs? Calvin does know he’s an only child?

I wonder what Hobbes is up to right now…

I love that Calvin sticks to his strategy even when the going gets tough.

Excellent start for a bedtime story, Calvin.

Will the little imp ever give it a rest? Doubtful.

Calvin is the one shocked when Dad is reelected by Mom (and Hobbes) and keeps his position!

Who does Calvin think will take Dad’s place?

“I will not accept if nominated and will not serve if elected.”

I think LBJ said, “I do not seek, nor will I accept …”

Calvin, Dad is a (benevolent, mostly) dictator/King.

Your only hope is to overthrow him in a violent revolution, when you become a teenager.

But you never grow up, so . . . no hope!

Although I didn’t realize it at the time (when I was Calvin’s age and also an only child), my father too was a mostly benevolent tyrant. He was much like Terry Pratchett’s Patrician in that he believed in One Man, One Vote – he was the Man so he had the Vote. So, “Because I said so” was a complete sentence – with no appeal. Looking back, I cannot see it did me any harm at all and may have, in fact, done me a lot of good.

I think I’d demand a recount too, if tigers were allowed to vote.

Calvin still hasn’t grasped that he lives in a dictatorship, not a democracy.
