Well, in as much as Hobbes is a stuffed animal, there must be some part of Calvin that had sensed enough not to run into the road. I am thinking the pucker factor here is pretty high.
Now, I did not see where Calvin (or Hobbes) ever went into the car and released the parking brake or put it in neutral… so it is really his parents that helped contribute to this situation by leaving it in a state where it could roll (or be pushed)… but I think that’s reflected later in this arc. :-)
I was a parking lot attendant at a restaurant. I directed people to empty spaces. In front of the restaurant was a busy main road. One day I watched as a car rolled down into the road. I wasn’t being paid enough to risk injury to stop it. By some miracle there was no traffic coming. If I am on any kind of incline, I set my emergency brake.
proof of why you should always have the parking brake on. just letting the car sit can put pressure on the transmission it doesn’t need AND occasionally a small boy and his tiger might push it.
This always reminded me of the runaway car scene from “A Goofy Movie,” except it was rolling forwards. Now it just needs music like this… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRzQKDSfC5g

When Hobbes does something like this, — stopping Calvin from running into the road — you can’t help but believe he’s alive.

At this point, just tell the car to stop and maybe it will.

Now what car owner doesn’t do the emergency brake when the garage is almost at an incline?

I never really understood why Americans call the handbrake “the emergency brake”, but in this case the term is justified.

It is not Calvin’s fault if dad does not put the brakes and puts the car into gear while parking the vehicle in the garage.
