Irving: I used to spend hours trying to decide which books and CDs to lug on vacation. But now I can hold every book and song in the world in the palm of my hand! I don't have to decide ANYTHING! I can bring them ALL! TA DA! I'm ready to go!! How's YOUR packing coming along, honey? Cathy (behind door): I'll be out as soon as someone invents digital footwear!

I actually quite enjoyed spending hours deciding on books and music. I’d record albums everything so I could have 2 tapes/albums on one cassette, get rid of songs I hated and get more on each one.
Then I’d go to all the used book stores for a new series, some “improving” books and something fun. Get there (in our case, 2 days in a car through Nevada/Utah followed by a week on a houseboat) and revel in the music and the warm dry new books! A joy from beginning to end.
Maybe it’s good we have been too cheap for kindle/ipods?

It’s so unfair that Irving can take a small shoulder bag for a vacation, while Cathy has to spend hours agonizing over her packing choices, and will probably bring more than she needs.

Maybe it’s a Guy Thing, Christina. I can pack for a week in a carry-on bag and have room left over. :)

C’mon, Cathy…no one will care about your shoes as much as you will. Just pack 2 pairs, one dressy and one casual, and wear a pair that you can walk in everywhere, and you’ll be fine.
I think my husband may be the exception to the “guy” rule. We travel to Europe for at least 2 weeks at a time, and I usually pack less than he does. And he takes more shoes than I do.

masnadies: I did that for my recent vacation in Florida. I only cracked open one book, and barely listened to any of the music. This tends to happen to me every time I go off on vacation… BUT if I don’t plan ahead like that one time, I end up not being as busy and wishing I had packed those books or doing the music mix…

My wife took her Kindle to Peru, while my daughter took actual, heavier books. Kindle won, hands down.

I must be an unusual woman - I went to Great Britain for two weeks, and the only reason I brought two suitcases was because I planned to buy clothing and souvenirs over there. Unless I know I’m going to be going out a lot, I normally pack one nice dress/outfit with shoes to match, and the rest is casual clothes and a pair or two of comfortable shoes.

The digits go in the front of the footwear.

At 72, I STILL LOVE to dress to the nines, especially now that I’m in good shape but if I can plan all the events for the trip, I take far less than I would if someone else may be controlling some activities,
