Mom: Remember the olden days, Cathy? We used to find a gift in a store and then run all over town comparing it to the same item in all the other stores. Cathy: Then came the catalog revolution... then we'd not only compare the same item in all the stores, but we'd go home and compare the same item in all the catalogs. Mom: But no more. Now we have our computers. Now when we see a gift in a store we'll compare it to the same item in all the other stores... ...Then we'll compare it to the same item in all the catalogs... Cathy: ...And then we'll boot up. Log on, and compare it to the same item in a worldwide web of 25,000,000 online shopping sites!! Mom: Whew, what a time-saver. Dad: Did you get your Christmas shopping all finished?

boot up…..have not heard that for a long time…..did that particular euphemism become deleted in computer speak?

not only that, but now we have smart phones where we can scan the barcode in the store and it will compare it to everything on the Internet and the stores. When you get good coverage, of course.

And yet Cathy and her mother complain that MEN have a hard time making commitments!

“Booting up”, heck, “logging on” have both left the venacular. While technically turning on one’s computer and waiting for the operating system can be considered “Booting up” its often not required as most of us leave our computers on all of the time. “Logging on” thats an amusing one really, in the age of always “on” always “connected”.
