Cathy:...Whew! I can't stand for my mother to think she's right! Woman: Why? Cathy: Because then she'll win. Woman: Win what? Cathy: She'll win the mother-daughter contest. Woman: What contest? Cathy: The contest of willis! The ego playoffs! The bizarre sport of creating conflict out of complete agreement!! Woman: You're kidding. That's so juvenile. Cathy: I hate it when my friends grow up.
Hi Cathyites!!There are plenty of folks who practice this mentality with everyone they meet — not just their moms. Not good strategy. At least moms (usually) practice unconditional love, so you get away with it there — not once you are out in the world. I often find myself asking people “why are you arguing, I (he/she/they) agree with you.”
