Mom: "Obesity crises in America" "To blame: fast-food companies... department of agriculture... FDA... food giants... sedentary lifestyle... saturday morning cartoons... global warming... stretchy waistbands... with everyone pointing a finger at everyone else, a new mood grips the land..." Mother's off the hook! Cathy: Wow. "Gene pool" didn't even make the top ten.

Unfortunately, not everyone is slated to have the “ideal” body size…some really do have a genetic problem that keeps their weight above the “recommended” limit. My thinking is, don’t let weight get in the way…especially if the person in question eats “healthy” most of the time…or, even if they don’t. I don’t see that it is my business. Anyway, now Cathy’s Mom has it right…its time to take Moms off the hook! Have a sublime Monday, all! ;)

Yeah, I don’t think mother is totally off the hook. Some of it is genetics, some of it is what you eat, some of it is environmental, etc. All you can really help is your choices, actions and decisions, and try not to put so much blame on everything else that you can’t control.Hello Cathy friends! We decided yesterday to have a Thanksgiving dinner at our house the Saturday after the American Thanksgiving (since we don’t get Thanksgiving off here obviously). This should be interesting – trying to find ingredients and simple Thanksgiving recipes that I can make here.

Looking at historic BMI data, the average weight increased only slightly from 1960-1980 and then started increasing far more rapidly for the last two decades. Either there have been truly significant changes in eating habits and exercise or something in the environment is affecting us.

I wonder where “Any excuse I can think of not to diet and exercise” landed on the list?
Hi, rgcviper!
Dr. K.F.G.: I don’t know if Superstorm Sandy had anything to do with Aaron & Dr. Billy mysteriously going missing or not. Their last post was October 19, 2012 and “Sandy” didn’t hit their area until sometime around October 29th . . . 10 days later. With all of Aaron’s health problems — particularly his periodic bouts of cancer over the years [not to mention his job as a paramedic/firefighter] — we speculated that perhaps he died and Dr. Billy has just been too broken up to come back here without him. Or maybe something completely different happened and it’s the other way around instead. Or maybe neither one of them survived “Sandy” after all. We just don’t know. lightenup tried to find Aaron on a couple of trips she made up that way when she went to visit her mom but without knowing his full name, what fire station he specifically worked at, etc., it was an impossible thing to do. Dr. Billy said he worked at the N.I.H. so I tried to find him on their website but do you know how many Bill’s, Billy’s and William’s work in that place?!? Yet another impossible task without having more information to search with. We miss them terribly here and hope they’ll come back to us again someday but after 2 years now without a single word, I don’t think any of us are really expecting that to ever happen. But we sure are glad to have YOU back though. HOORAY!!!
P.S.: If you want to know how to do the
red text font, go here for the instructions: http://home.comcast.net/~ccdesan/Pibgorn/StyleGuide.html [what I hate though, is that when you use it, anything that comes after it is put on the next line, as you can see here]Hello and Happy Tuesday, fellow “Cathy” fans. Hope everyone’s keeping warm where you are and that the polar vortex hasn’t buried you under too much snow! We got somewhere between 2-1/2" and 5" overnight [depending on where you poke with the yardstick to measure it]. Not too bad compared to what some places have gotten but certainly unusual for this time of year where I live in southern Indiana.

Good for Cathy’s mother. I’ll still give this one an [eye-roll], though.
HI, MOM. Thanks for your kind words about Aaron and Billy. I really hope they’re OK, and that we’ll see them here again someday.
Hello, “Cathy” Clan.
