Why is she subjecting poor Irving to this?

None of this is necessary. All those poor people don’t want something that you randomly bought for them. And poor Irving shouldn’t have to go through this torture. Personally, rather than a gift, I’d prefer a coffee or lunch with a friend where we can catch up and enjoy our time together.

Well, these things are so important to Cathy. Why? Who knows how she got this stuff into her head? cough MOM cough So, when something is this important to us (no matter how screwy it seems to others) we want to share it with the person we love. If they refuse, it hurts. I tell MY love…just pretend for me and go along. It works even though I know he hates it, but will do it just because…well, maybe I don’t want to know the REAL reason behind the just because.

My husband is the one who really likes to shop. “Honey, try this on… and this, and this?” Sometimes I feel like I’m his life size Barbie doll. When someone complements me on an outfit I say, "Thanks to my fashion consultant, Monsignor R. J.

I agree with lightenup, time spent together is so much better than meaningless “non-gifts”.

Poor Irving. This is one of the many things I don’t understand about other women, shopping. The other would be shoes. What is the fascination? As long as I have a few changes of shoes, in case one pair gets wet or to switch to for colder weather, I don’t see the need for more than 6 pairs. (I keep a few old ones for messy work outside, otherwise, I wouldn’t have that many.) And shopping is a necessary torture which I do as little as possible. Groceries are a must, but I only do that once every few weeks. I shop for shoes when the old ones are wearing out or every couple of years, whichever comes first. Barnes & Noble once a week is a treat I do enjoy. I do understand shopping for books. Lovely, lovely books. Far away adventures, surprising new things to learn, pictures of distant places I’ll probably never see in this life. I can sink into someone else’s life for a while and see things with a new perspective. Maybe other women see shoes that way and not like a form of painful torture like I do.

I’ll mostly roll my eyes at this one, though there’s a bit of truth here, when I stumble across little gifts I hadn’t been planning to buy. Going shopping specifically to buy “non-gifts” seems to kinda defeat the purpose, though.

HI, MOM, and Happy Birthday! Sounds like you’ve had a nice day … good to hear. It’s always nice to see you here in “Cathy’s Corner”, too.

    Greetings, Clan.
