Noise: Ring ring. Mom: I'll get it! Noise: Ring ring. Mom: I might get it! Hello? Cathy: Hi, Mom. MoM: Oh, is that you, sweetie? Cathy: You have caller ID. You knew it was me. Mom: I don't like to peek at the caller I.D. It seems rude. Cathy: You don't peek?? Mom: No... I do peek. I said I don't like to peek. Cathy: If you peeked and knew it was me, why did you ask if it was me?? Mom: Because if I just said, "hello Cathy," you'd know I peeked and it would seem like an invasion of privacy! Cathy: So instead you lied and pretended you didn't peek? Mom: Yes! This is what the world's come to! It's no longer possible to even answer the phone without being flung into a moral dilemma in which every choice is an unthinkable breach of etiquette! Cathy: Maybe you should simply cancel caller I.D., Mom. Mom: How would I avoid all the dear friends from whom I'm trying to hide?? Then. Now.

I don’t like telemarketrs and robo calls so I only answer friends. I greet them by name. Nobody thinks that’s an invasion of privacy.

Caller ID has it’s purpose. Let’s face it… one of them is, “I don’t want to talk to you right now”.

[Sigh] Overthinking things just a bit, Cathy’s mom?
As for caller I.D., I don’t receive too many calls from weird numbers, but I simply don’t answer if I don’t recognize them. The caller can always leave a voice mail if he/she is legit.

Like rgcviper I don’t answer calls I do not recognize – but when the phone rings at 7:00am when I am still sleeping I still have to wake up to see the number – and 5 calls in 3 days all starting at 7:00am really was not fun. Looked up nomorobo that karlykru suggested but it is not available for NorthernTel/Bell Canada. Rats as it looks like a really great service.
Another day above freezing with wet snow on and off all day. Ah well, I can stay inside today. I hope your day is warm and dry without any interruptions from unwanted phone calls.

I don’t even answer my land line anymore…nothing but robocalls and when I tried to check out nomorobo, I was informed it’s not available for my phone or area or something.
