Cathy Classics by Cathy Guisewite for December 31, 2020

Charlene: I plan to be in my PJs by 9:00 PM. Mr. Pinkley: I haven't stayed up past 10:00 in two years! Caption: Last week, the Christmas gift exchange. Today, that other heartwarming holiday tradition: The new year's eve bedtime information exchange. Man: We TiVo the ball dropping and turn in by 9:45! Cathy: Really?? That makes me feel so much better! Bald man: We sometimes poop out by 8:30.
Since my normal bedtime is 2:00am EST I have no trouble staying up past midnight. I am alone though as my wife hits the bed between 10 and 11. I gave up watching the ball drop years ago when the cameras started to spend all of their time on the crowd so I did not get to see the ball at all. Maybe this year might be different with no crowds.
We get to celebrate a little early today. At 3:00pm they are going around the bay in a helicopter to livestream every outside having fun as family groups. We will be around our bonfire so it should look interesting – there will be a lot of people doing the same thing. Others will be doing some activity – like snowmobiling, skiing, or snowshoeing. Then at 8:00 most of the residents around the bay will be setting off fireworks while a drone livestreams that. In all, probably the most celebrating we have done since we stopped having house parties a few decades ago.
Please celebrate safely. Not worth the risk just to be in a crowd right now. Happy New Year to everyone who hangs out here.
