I hate it when you call some place and a machine answers and says “You have reached…” and then goes on for the next five minutes advertising the company. In my opinion, I haven’t reached the company until a human being answers.

Being on hold now a days is not so bad as it used to be. I Bluetooth up and watch TV or clean the house while I’m waiting(maybe go out to dinner). I’ve had “hold” kick me off because I was there to long.

How about being on hold for an hour, and you FINALLY get a real person. That real person, unfortunately has a very heavy accent you just can’t understand over the phone. In person you may do better, but on the phone it’s harder. It’s embarrassing to ask them to repeat the parts you really need to know about.

Looking at the situation portrayed in this old strip and the comments so far companies have certainly have not improved their phone answering methods. Whenever I get a real person instead of a machine I always thank them for answering in person as it is so much more efficient – not as cheap as having a machine answer but certainly more efficient.

Happy long weekend for those celebrating Canada Day tomorrow and Independence Day on the 4th.

Nice head-desk in the last panel, Irving. However, a little disturbing to think the companies might listen in to us while we’re on hold. I thought our utterances during that time were sacred! Ha.

    HI, MOM. Hello, Clan.
