A salesman without good product knowledge is simply an overpaid cashier.
This is my oldest son and his sons. Never ask them a question, because you will get this same reaction. It can be maddening when I really need to know the answer!
“If I knew anything, would I be standing around on a concrete floor all day?”
When I was young, the standard response to “May I help you” was “Why not!”
I have run into too many sales clerks like this one. Fortunately many of them would at least go look for someone who might know the answer.
