I keep clothes until they start getting holes. Then they make great rags, sleeping shirts, material for crafts, house cleaning, etc. I really hate clothes shopping and will only do it maybe once a year or when necessary.
I personally hold to the 5-year rule. If I haven’t worn it for 5 years, it needs to go. Usually, it doesn’t fit any more, I don’t like wearing it any more, or it’s just not right for me(think Parka in Florida sort of thing).
My wife collected textiles of all sorts, including clothing and embroidered works. I remember at one garage sale, she sold a dress that had been found in a closet of a house after Fleetwood Mac moved out of it and might have belonged to Stevie Nicks.
At least my wife did manage to sell most of that stuff before she died.
It’s been five years, Cathy. If you haven’t worn it this entire time and you’re never going to, then there’s no point in keeping it any longer. All it’s doing is taking up valuable real estate in your closet so donate it to Goodwill. I think it’s kind of cute (especially when you see it in color) so I’m sure someone would love to have it, but if it’s too “out of style” and no one buys it, then GW will probably just make rags out of it. Either way, it’ll be out of your life forever and you’ll never have to see or deal with it again, which is a real win-win situation to me.
