Mona is merely being matter-of-fact, though I suppose she could have chosen to put a more positive spin on it. She just doesn’t have a lot of experience with positive spin….
Cousin works at the Long Beach Docks… the number of ships plus the off-shore drilling adds up to .lots and lots of heavy crude accidentally getting into the water.. unlike regular oil, it sinks so there isn’t the out-cry you’d expect.. but if you walk in the water almost any where, you’ll pick up some….
The tar I get. Los Angeles beaches are suffused with contaminants such as spilled oil, which stick to the feet after the sand has been brushed off. But the bleeding pores… Mona’s exaggerating isn’t she?
Hey! You don’t get tar on your feet at Headlands Beach, and the water and sand are damned clean. That’s ‘Cleveland’, folks, or pert near. One gorgeous beach.
My best guess is that they are probably near the Santa Monica beach (almost directly west of Los Angeles proper). And yeah, you don’t really want to go into water there; Mona’s probably not exaggerating much. There’s plenty of other beaches that are good to walk through, but they aren’t always in L.A.
I guess it would be pointless to post that more oil seeps NATURALLY from the sea floor than all of what has been spilled due to drilling or transporting of oil. In North America especially, due to improved extraction and transportation techniques, spillage from man-related sources is far less than naturally occuring seepage. If you want links, ask me, or just look up (I refuse to say “Google it”) “oil seepage from seabeds.”
Not every beach has lovely soft sand. It’s possible that beach has larger pebbles and stones on the ocean floor. Although Mona does say “pores” not cuts, so no idea what’s up with that although some waterfront territory is rough on feet.

Thanks TruckDriverFritz! So, this happens year-round? Wow, how does one enjoy swimming off Cali beaches?
fritzoid Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Cough cough I am NOT TruckDriverFritz. That’s some other guy.
You don’t swim at California beaches, you run across them in slow motion. Haven’t you ever seen “Baywatch”?
The tar isn’t thick and dripping, by the way. Mostly it just stains the bottom of your feet black after a while, and isn’t easy to scrub off.

What, nobody is anwering Fritzoid’s question about the bleeding pores? I wanna know too!
I think Mona has just lost Ryan, not because of Mona but because he can’t surf year-round.
(I’ve had tarfoot at New Jersey beaches too. The darker the normally light-colored sand, the more tar.)
