Gorilla tape – one would think orange would be the perfect color – but when less than 40% of the people approve, well, don’t you see, you’re gonna have a bit of a hard sell.
Legal briefs in England were tied together in narrow red ribbon, called tape, as far back as the 1700s. Still are. This could be the origin of the term or it could not. YMMV
