I met a guy from NYC who drove an Austin-Healy 3000. He tells the story of driving on one of the parkways and the car breaking down. He pulls off the highway and pops the hood. While he’s looking under the bonnet the car starts a jerking motion. He investigates and finds a guy jacking up the rear. He inquires just what the gentleman might be doing and is told “it’s ok mac, you can have the battery I just want the tires”.
I had a roommate who grew up in the Bronx. He had to go to New York City on business for FEMA, many years ago. He was traveling with another guy, who was driving them in the rental car after they arrived on the “red eye” flight.
Having fallen asleep in the car, he woke to find them driving through the Bronx.
“What!”
“I thought you might like to see the old neighborhood. Want to get out and look around?”
“No. Don’t stop. Don’t stop for lights, stop signs or anything. Just get out of here.”
“You don’t …”
“Go! Go! Go!”

When he lived there, burglars broke the door getting into his apartment. They never repaired it so that future burglars would not have to cause damage to find out there was NOTHING worth stealing.
