Both fish are in their best bowties…until panel 4? Have they both decided that there’s no fighting against their fate? The little one seems to know what’s up, yet he came to the “dinner party” anyway! These two are way too cooperative!
@cleokaya and @ noicantspell Hallford You know, I was also “on the fence” re:onion soup mix, but decided to go with it because it really did add to it, and I remember liking it when my mom made it. But, that being said, and with all the other ingredients in this dish, it’s not a critical ingredient at all. Also, brown rice would work…no problem! Again, with all that’s going on, flavor – wise, brown rice certainly would not work against that. It’s that kind of recipe where you can really “tweak” it to suit your own individual taste. That’s what I usually do. I will make a recipe first the way it’s written, then decide what changes I’ll make to it the next time (if it’s a worthwhile recipe to make again). The golumpki recipe gives you the basics, and by all means, you should alter it to suit your tastes and needs. Enjoy!
@Dry Like cleokaya said, caraway is a totally different flavor than fennel, but that’s not to say that it wouldn’t work. In fact, I add caraway seeds to my lazy pierogi, and it’s really good, so caraway would definitely work (in fact, they’re next to each other on my spice rack, and I actually briefly considered using caraway rather than fennel! I’m sure you must have had fennel seed at some point…in our area, many good Italian sausages have fennel seed as a great seasoning. I thought that was common in Italian cooking. Am I wrong?) Anyway, different flavors, but both would work is the bottom line.
@ chefwen If anyplace would have good Polish food, Chicago is the place! How does the recipe you printed out compare to mine? I’d be interested in knowing.
@Dry, yes fennel has a licorice or anise flavor. I love it, but can understand why a person might not. I also love cilantro and not everyone is a fan of it either. I definitely know you are a fan of caraway. LOL
StelBel yes, now that you mention the sausage, I have had fennel before. cleo saying it tasted like licorice reminded me of that. And I do like it, I have never personally used it myself in cooking though. With cabbage or sauerkraut I always use caraway seeds.
cleo, I also like cilantro, which I think we have discussed before. I grow my own in summer, but last year my plant did terribly. It must have been diseased when I bought it. I was just on my back porch and I see my chives are peeking up out of the leaf mulch. Later I must check to see if my asparagus and strawberries are greening up also.
I did see that commercial StelBel. Foreign commercials are usually so much better than ours, except for our Clydesdales and E-Trade babies, there are few of ours that are good.
“May those who love us, love us; and those who don’t love us, may God turn their hearts; and if He doesn’t turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles so we’ll know them by their limping.”
Ack, ……I’m sick! Got the flu yesterday, woke up with it in fact during the night, complete with a debilitating headache, sick to my stomach, and all the other “fun” symptoms that go with the flu.
Haven’t even read yesterday’s posts. Not today’s either. Just too sick. Hurts to focus my eyes enough to read much.
Just didn’t want anyone to think I disappeared again without notice. Drat, even sick I’m upset that my corned beef and cabbage dinner is not to be. At least not today.
Everyone else is OK, so far at least. I don’t think my “critters” including Ralph and Agnes, get the flu anyway. So all is well there….I hope.
Enjoy the day and all the wonderful, scrumptious food that you will enjoy today. (Wish I could). ((((((StelBel, Dry, Cleokaya, Citizen GROG, Sugie, Happy Happy Happy noicant Halford, JP Steve, x_Tech, Greg Trail, Shikamoo, Lonewolf and Nighthawks.)))))! See…..even sick I can’t seem to be brief. Hope you ALL stay well!
Well, good night all! I guess I’ve posted more than my fair share today…LOL!
@ sugie BTW, trust me when I tell you: I believe I’m the one who gained weight yesterday and today, but…it was worth it. And, corned beef tomorrow. Yummm!
Sorry I missed you StelBel! Have a nice evening and a good sleep! And that gorgeous dog is SURE to make puppybreath feel better! (Dang, I have to get on that “insert picture” thing!)
Fellow Baby I have NOT seen that movie in YEARS! I think the last time I saw it, was in Erie, PA at a ladies house who my mom and her sister adopted as their Aunt Gertie. She was a widow who never had any children of her own, so she rented out her extra bedrooms to nursing students, of which mom was one, and my Aunt Mary would come to visit my mom. They kept that close contact for years, until Aunt Gertie passed away. Anyway, sorry for the nostalgia here, but you saying that brought back some WONDERFUL memories of those visits!
Fellow Baby by “piece of cake” I am assuming you mean inserting photos, etc. I have MOST of the instructions. The one time I tried, it didn’t work, and I haven’t had time to try since then. Or were you OFFERING me a piece of cake? If it has icing on it, I’ll take one. Thank you! :-D
Shika, I’m hoping puppybreath will be feeling well enough to eat all the stuff I was able to eat, long after my leftovers are gone. In a way I envy her. She’ll probably enjoy it all the more.
JP Steve, a remark that got taken down? What remark? Was it that bad? Boy they are getting touchy, unless the poster removed it theirself, but yet that one guy has been all over today about Eric the Circle! Geez!

The little fish gets the irony, but then he’s not a keeper like the big fish is. Soon to be marinated fish steaks or fillets.

Feel better soon puppybreath! Do you have any Emetrol on hand for nausea? Assuming of course, you have no allergies to any of the ingredients.
