Friend of mine picked up a dead-bat. It tested positive for rabies. She had to get a lot of shots. Rabies is deadly if not treated promptly.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen bats in my life.

Once when I was almost 17 we took a family camping trip from Oklahoma to the California coast. 1968, it looked like paradise, the nicest little towns maybe 15 miles apart, tennis courts full of pretty girls. Somewhere near Morro Bay we pulled into a newly minted RV (a former fruit orchard still full of trees) park full of trucks with overhead campers like ours. My Dad had brought along one of those mini-bikes about 5 hp. So I put my 10 year old brother behind me and we explored just at dusk. We ended up at the entrance, small burger bar, c-store and a big laundromat full of women and girls. Big Hair was not confined to Texas, all the ladies and their daughters used huge rollersan brushed it up high. The sun was almost gone when coming toward us was a crowd of 20 or more women screaming their lungs out as they ran at us. We froze. As they got close we could see THEM! Giant Fruit Bats swooping at all those heads full of sweet smelling fruity hair. We didn’t laugh. As they scattered we rode back for dinner and didn’t mention a thing…just watched the shadowy bats teist and turn among the trees.
