Too many select/travel teams are built around parent/coach egos instead of honest assessments of the kids’ talent and potential.
The only real questions are “what does your kid want” and “do they have a decent chance to get there”. I’ve seen FAR too many kids on select teams (in multiple sports) who should have stayed in youth/rec leagues and school teams.

If you are going to hire a quality coach and expect him to travel all around the country to coach your kiddies, it costs $.
