Poison is ingested whilst venom is injected. If you bite a critter and you die, it is poisonous. If it bites/stings you and you die, it is venomous. Not that this would help Steve, but judging from the size of the stinger, he is SOL (Soitanly Outta Luck) either way.
Call me pedantic, but my students are always getting this incorrect. We all have our little bugaboos, but as a teacher and editor, this one gnaws at me. Carry on.
