Awhile back, a friend was complaining about the bunch of Amazon boxes he needed to get rid of. I told ’im to put trash in each one, tape ’em up and leave ’em on his front porch. Porch pirates would solve the problem. ;-)
All right, Bleeb. Now you can check the “Saw Porch Pirate in Action” box on your “Observations” spreadsheet. Time to move inside for the entertainment portion of your day.
Genius, but old TVs should be taken to recycling centers or stores that will take them to one. I used to pick up old TVs for parts for tinkering and experiments (lots of great parts in those things) but driving around on a delivery route, there were just too many! People don’t keep them, don’t get them repaired like they did when TVs first came out, and they don’t take them to a place that will dispose of them properly. Sad.
I haven’t gotten a new tv of any sort in about 3 years. I just cut the box up and stuck it in a yard bag and placed it in the dumpster which serves 4 houses, so my risk is pretty small.
My kids in Nashville TN. bought a new stereo and left the empty box in the back seat of their car, the next morning the window was broke out of their car.
I wonder how soon it will be before someone puts a real loud and fragmentable ball in a box for the porch pirates. I don’t recommend it but some people take that sort of stealing very seriously.
I knew someone who’s car was broken into several times. He put dog droppings in a box and gift wrapped it. When the thieves struck and found out what it was, they came back and broke all the windows and slashed all four tires.
It would be even better to have recorded the serial number so he can be caught when he dutifully attempts to recycle it at an electronic waste disposal center. :)
Here, people go through our neighbor hood the night before trash pickup day and will pick up stuff. You can put out an old appliance, old lawn mower, etc., put a sign saying please take me, and it will be gone in the morning.

I never thought it would be good to have porch pirates, but that would be a good way to get rid of e-waste.

On another note, I know as a man I’m naturally a poor judge of size, but it sure looks like they are downsizing those 36" TVs.
