    True cartoon.

As much as we dump on cars and talk about high-speed public transit, most of us would never use it.

The “third-world” is just getting cars, so they are going from bikes or walking to what they see as freedom. The demand for oil will go up, and so will carbon footprints – a real problem, but most of the ideas expressed so far don’t deal with the coming demand.

    Any Ideas?

Efficient public transportation systems like in New York would definitely help out. At least there you can go from point A to point B via their sub-way system. That way the need for cars would be to go haul things to and from the house.

But then we’d put car makers out of business…

Most of the U.S. is WAY behind the rest of the “developed” world in mass transit, both humans and freight. That third world HAS advanced some is seen by many “firsters” as a threat, not promise– economically.

Elegant statement in this cartoon. You know that one of the “greenest” cities in the world by many standards is New York City? Something like 85% of New Yorkers don’t even own a car, either walking or taking public transit instead. Furthermore, apartment buildings are more efficient users of energy than lots of individual houses. Weird, but true.

True, dtroutma! In blind taste tests, NYC tap water – which also contains fluoride, so is better for your teeth – tends to win!

Sooky Rottweiler says; I can’t wait ‘till they make a top list of all toilet waters from around the country.

    (Sooky’s a dog, remember!)

Congratulations, St. Louis - nice town, spent a lot of time there. Is that where you are, NoFearPup?

My dog doesn’t have time for people. He’s a rabid hunter…with unfulfilled instincts. I did not know there was so much wildlife in suburbia before he came…today I heard an owl and saw a raccoon…and a made a list earlier of what he chases…bugs, cats, squirrels, opossum, rabbit, mice, rat, birds, geese, moles, snakes. woodpeckers, hummingbirds, fox…
