And I I haven’t heard any of my fellow Australians use that word (except for Steve Irwin on TV) for a long long time.

We Aussies say something like: “@#$%&*!!!”

Is having a giant snowplow at the front of the sleigh some sort of braking system?

Those are flyers, not boomers, which makes even better sense.
