^ I banged my head against the wall that is SF regarding the fact he didn’t seem able to differentiate between Zimbabwe & South Africa.
It is sometimes unbelievable just how ignorant one can be of the world at large. Americans may have the notoriety of geographical ignorance but it is a worldwide ailment. No need to to knock Americans needlessly on this score. ;-)
Case in point: Sweden & Switzerland. In Portuguese they are Suécia & Suíça respectively. Guess what happens.
The AIRhole pronouncement is simply positional: now everyone who reads this will know the difference between Sweden and Switzerland. Lichtenstein would be a pimple on the left AIR-cheek? How about Luxembourg? That reminds me: my grandmother couldn’t remember if her grand-parents (one set) were from Sweden or Switzerland. Picture a man bent over getting a rect-l exam. Switzerland is the AIRH0le, and Sweden is the left arm reaching back and pointing to it. Now, when America has to liberate Europe again - all of the grunts will know where Switzerland is.
I know this is a waste of time but…. try some taste with your attempts to visually educate the masses. I’m sure the Swiss people would appreciate it.
Also, I doubt Europe will be in any need of liberation in the near future. Try asking a European, preferrably a large one, within arms reach. Hmm, maybe you’ll need liberating?
It depends…is he a muslim? You are a teacher, Gradius? What Lib teaching method have you been using to teach American students geography? Because you need to know…they aren’t learning much.
I was well aware of pup’s likely response fennec. I was amusing myself. My colleagues would laugh themselves silly over pup’s assumptions concerning my teaching style.
Many people outside the US have more knowledge of america than their own countries. For example, I can name every president since Hoover yet I can only name a few canadian prime ministers.
Presidents; Hoover (1928-1932), FDR (1932-1945), Truman (1945-1952), Eisenhower (1952-1960), Kennedy (1960-1963), Johnson (1963-1968), Nixon (1968-1975) ,Ford (1975-76), Carter (1976-1980), Reagan (1980-1988), Bush Sr. (1988-1992), Clinton (1992-2000), Bush Jr. (2000-2008), Obama (2008-)
Prime ministers (okay, there I go, for those who had terms of more than a year): Diefenbaker, Pearson, Trudeau (1970-1980, 1981-1984) Mulroney (1984-1992 (I think)) Chrétien (1992-2003), Martin (2003-2005), Harper (2005-)
Ask any canadian who was the first american president, he will answer it was George Washington. Ask any canadian who was the first canadian prime minister, half of them might just answer it was John A. MacDonald.
American culture is just that omnipresent in the rest of the world.
^ ‘Fraid I agree with Church here.
I have enough trouble as it is keeping up with facts & news from South Africa, Portugal, Britain, now Austria, Africa & Europe at large then rest of world…
Mind you, my brother and I were part of a pub quiz team and we were able to name every country in the world and its capital (and locate them on a map), then moved onto the provinces of Canada, Portugal, Australian states and then…the US states & their capitals.
Never tried British counties :p
Gosh, we were bored.

The president, who suffers from a serious heart condition, has been “ruling” Nigeria via email and fax from a hospital bed in Saudi Arabia.
Sure.

I’ve been following this for a bit. I don’t think their are a lot of good alternatives to him at the moment.

I know it doesn’t take much but what yanked your tail about Switzerland Pup?
NoFearPup over 14 years ago
It’s little and it’s in the center of Europe…Europe’s [AIR]hole.
[Hey, they took my first post down but kept the others…]

Then why not pick on Liechtenstein, it’s even smaller and borders Switzerland. Population: Only 35 000-odd.

I thought it was too much to hope pup had a decent reason. I am disappointed in their anti- minnaret legislation.

^ The Swiss government shares your disappointment! But I understand it has to abide by the referendum’s result.
Re pup: No disappointment, it is expected.

I said the omnipresence of american culture make us forget our own, but it doesn’t mean it’s not our fault for allowing it to happen.
