I know payphones have gone the way of the dinosaur in the States ( pretty much ) but I can’t recall seeing any in the UK lately, either.

We have a few phone boxes in this part of the UK. Whether they work or not is another matter as I haven’t seen anyone use them or an engineer working on them in years.

I suppose it was a coin toss as to whether The Doctor travelled in a police box or a wardrobe.

Yes, there are phone boxes here in Britain, though they are getting scarcer (and are too often vandalised). They’re handy if only to ring 0800 (toll-free) numbers, since those aren’t free from mobile phones.

I think that most have instructions to place international calls – from Britain to the US, dial 00-1 + area code + number.

He would have been in plain sight. If seen, he would have been arrested. As you can see, he would be in public.

I don’t know if this is still the case, but a few years ago many of the actual working pay phones were owned and operated by private companies or individuals and not the telephone company.

@EldoHow did you manage to raise that window for Linda to get her ‘medication’? Those hospital windows are usually pretty hard to open.

Urinating in public is pretty likely to cause someone else distress! As such, it’s an offence under section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986 and may get you a £80 FPN or a £1,000 fine if prosecuted.
